Seven things group programmes have done for me (and could do for you too)

Yes this is a blog about how beneficial group programmes are … and I will be sharing details of my group programmes at the end. But bear with me, it’s not just another sales post I promise.

I’m keen to share the phenomenal impact that being part of group programmes has had on my own businesses, with you so that you can benefit too. Being part of group programmes helped me grow my first business to beyond six figures and has also helped me to create my current, profitable business which brings in enough money to continuously invest in my self-development and business growth and to support the lifestyle I want, including school fees, living in Ibiza for a month in 2019 and (since Covid-19 hit in March 2020) with me as the sole breadwinner.

The reason I’m passionate about group programmes is that the impact they have had and continue to have on both me and my business is incredible. The results have been greater than I ever imagined when I joined my first group programme. I’ve achieved amazing things in a short space of time, and I’ve witnessed this happen to many others too.

One of the results of being part of a group programme is that I spent the majority of 2020 fully booked with 1-2-1 clients. This led me to review my business model and to introduce group programmes of my own. As one such programme draws to an end and I prepare for the next, improved programmes, it’s the perfect time to share with you the huge benefits I’ve experienced as a result of taking part in group programmes myself.

What exactly is a group programme?

Simply put, a group programme is a selection of people coming together regularly who are dedicated to mutual growth and improvement. And I know from personal experience, that much of the power behind group programmes comes from the #womensupportingwomen element, where we solve problems together and create opportunities in a way that you simply can’t do alone.

Essentially, it’s a space where you can ask yourself (and each other) tough questions and do regular deep dives into your business. Being part of a group programme is also an opportunity to up your game and to learn from other founders’ journeys. All in all, I can’t recommend them enough and it’s why I’m now offering them to you!

So here are the seven things that group programmes have given me and could give you:

  1. Continuous feedback

One of the first things that helped me start generating bigger results was having a regular space to learn and experiment. You can test out ideas and get feedback - quality, constructive, helpful feedback - that allows me to step out of my comfort zone and grow.

  2. Accountability to make big things happen

I’ve learnt over the years that accountability is absolutely huge for me, as I know it is for most of us. Having someone looking over your shoulder, or even just the knowledge that someone else is going to be checking in on your progress, pushes you to keep striving forward and is absolutely key to your success.

So what exactly has that looked like for me? Well, it has come in several ways. I started to show up in a bigger way, I’ve been sharing weekly video content consistently since April 2018. I’ve gone on to embrace my own name and rebrand this business in September 2019, and then to refocus my niche in 2020.

And right now, I’m writing a book, creating focused 90-day plans with my accountability group and investing scheduled time each week into furthering my own business education and development. There's no way I would be doing half of this without the group programmes I’ve been part of during the past 12 months and still am.

  3. Daily support

A confidential space to discuss challenges and problems that you face running my business. Whether that’s advice on website changes or systems, or to rant and rave about something you’ve discovered that’s helped you, or to vent about a being let down by a supplier or a tricky client.

Knowing you’ve got like-minded people to lean on, who will give me a gentle kick if I’m being indecisive or offer words of wisdom if that’s what I need, is invaluable. For my group programmes, that’s provided within a WhatsApp group. And in the group programmes I’m currently part of, we also use Slack. I prefer these options to a Facebook group or Voxer, but honestly, just embrace whatever format the support takes, it’s the constant presence that makes it work.

  4. Understanding and going deep

Delving into my business and really breaking down my strategy has been huge for me. I do it every day with clients, but mine sometimes got a bit lost in the depths. So I’ve been working on ensuring my own business strategy encompasses my own dreams and goals, not settling for what I think other people want me to do.

I’m learning to think bigger and have been putting myself in the necessary environment (mentally and physically - via Zoom now of course) to achieve more than I ever could alone. It’s such a privilege to see the clients within my group programme experiencing the same thing, it really is powerful stuff!

  5. Networking & a trusted circle of colleagues

When we’re working from home, often alone, it’s very easy to forget that you once had colleagues to lean on and bounce ideas off. And when you’re in a group programme, this is vital. These are your new Biz BFFs who’ll help you make decisions, listen to and question your innovative ideas. And within the group you’ll often find long-term friendships, accountability buddies and connections.

  6. An opportunity to learn from other industries and founders

You will thrive on the wisdom you absorb! Watching other founders smash their goals and hearing how they’ve done it is hugely inspiring. It motivates me to think bigger and to push myself. And I am soaking it all up, you will too.

As you can tell, I’m a huge fan. Being part of a group programme makes up-levelling and striving towards your goals so much easier, but learning from others is an essential part of this because you can also learn to avoid the mistakes others have made. Learning from founders within other industries also opens your eyes to new ideas and ways of doing things that you most probably wouldn’t get exposure to otherwise.

7. A reflection of your own wisdom and expertise as you help others

Possibly one of the biggest results for me! Helping and supporting the other women on the group programmes I’ve been part of has been powerful. Recognising how much I already know, and what a wealth of knowledge I have to share from my decades of experience, solely through these conversations.

Realising your own power and just how much wisdom you bring to the table really does fill you with the confidence you need to reach your goals. I look back at the business person I was before joining my first group programme, compared to who I am now and it’s sometimes hard to believe we’re one and the same.
